Week 2
4/11	Print out and read Zinn and Zimmerman handouts Forum contribution due any time before 12:00 noon.	Discuss Zinn and Zimmerman. Discuss the Writing Process, time management.
4/13	Write: Essay  1.1	Essay 1.1 due (bring three copies); Peer Workshop 1; Holocaust images; View Night and Fog
Week 3
4/18	Write: Essay 1.2 (revision of 1.1) Read: Maus I 1-24 and handout Read: CW 59-92 on revising, editing, and proofreading.	Essay 1.2 due, in-class reflection.  Discuss Maus, on the graphic novel, the visual symbol, and  personal histories.
4/20	Read CW  441-474 Read Maus 25-69 Forum contribution due by 12:00 noon.	Assign research project; introduce stasis questions; Discuss Maus
Week 4
4/25	Read Maus 71-128 Begin asking questions of yourself and others toward writing your research project. Write tentative research proposal. Read CW 477-502 on research.	Research Proposal due. Lecture: Primary and Secondary sources and the research process.  Discuss Maus
4/27	Read: Maus 129-end Running through Fire 1-20 Begin mapping your research. Forum contribution due.	Finish discussing Maus, begin discussing Running through Fire Assign Essay 2 (Midterm essay)
Week 5
5/2	Read: RTF 21-108. Begin interviews, gathering testimony for research project	Discuss RTF.  Discuss research progress.
5/4	Write three prospective theses (make three copies).  Continue gathering testimony. Read: RTF 109-140 Forum contribution due. Also, post your tentative thesis sentence with a brief introduction by 11:00 pm (after thesis workshop).	Discuss the Research Thesis.  Thesis workshop (bring three copies). Discuss RTF.
Week 6
5/9	Read: RTF: 141-End Forum contribution due	Discuss RTF.  Prepare for Midterm Essay.
5/11	Prepare for Midterm Read: The Reader  1-64	Midterm (1 1/2 hours).  Discuss Reader
Week 7
5/16	Read: The Reader 65-138.	Discuss Reader. Assign Essay 3.
5/18	Complete Annotated bibliography Read:  Reader 139-End Read: CW 373-386 on writing about literature and the performing arts.	Annotated Bibliography due (bring 3 copies).  AB Workshop.  Discuss Reader.  Question of responsibility.  Lecture: the shape of fiction, thinking about fiction, how it can be more real than non-fiction. Introduce writing about literature.
Week 8
5/23	Work on Research outlines.	View Sometimes in April (2005, HBO films)
5/25	Forum contribution due.	Discuss the film, Genocide, Rwanda, Darfur, and Reader.  Discuss Humanity.

5/30	Memorial Day: No Class
6/1	Peer Workshop 3. Essay 3.1 due (bring three copies) Those considering doing the extra-credit electronic version of the research project read CW 419-436 and begin planning.
Week 10
6/6	Complete Essay 3.2. Continue working on Research Projects.	Essay 3.2  due.  In-class reflection.
6/8	Prepare Oral Argument.  Read CW 425-436 on Oral Presentations.	Research Workshop.  Research Outline and introduction due.  (3 copies) Oral Arguments.
Week 11
6/13	Prepare Oral arguments.  Work on Research  Papers. Review CW 505-535 on MLA-style.	Oral Arguments
6/15	Prepare Oral arguments.  Work on Research  Papers.	Oral Arguments. Discuss Final exam.
Week 12
6/20	Prepare Oral arguments.  Complete Research  Papers.  Complete extra-credit e-versions .	Oral Arguments. Final Research Project due. Electronic versions must be  posted no later than 10:00 am to receive credit.
